I was impressed with the service and cleanliness of the rooms. The deluxe room was spacious, cozy, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The floors were spotless, and the added bonus of free parking was much appreciated.

However, the downside was the noise from the bar on Level L, which operates until 12 am on Saturday nights. The loud laughter, shouting, and booming music from the DJ made it quite disruptive, especially for tourists looking to rest early after a long day. This was a bit of an inconvenience and could be a concern for those seeking a peaceful stay.

Only negative is that there’s no fridge in the room. There’s a shared fridge outside the lift, which has limited storage.

“Hotel Like No Other”

Hotel Mokozoyo stands out with its unique industrial theme that blends seamlessly with trees and small rocks in the lobby. The reception area looks incredible—like a wooden container popping against the raw cement walls. They even have a bicycle service right in the lobby, which is a nice touch!

We tried all three dining spots at the hotel. For dinner, we didn’t have a reservation but decided to try Beton Dining, and the restaurant manager was amazing. They managed to find us a private spot at Kool Kongsi (the bar area), perfect for a cozy gathering with friends. The food was delicious, and the cocktails were a hit. The next day, we took a break at The Sandwich Bar cafe, and they were so welcoming, even letting us bring in some outside snacks. It made us feel right at home.

Our room was spacious, clean, and had plenty of room for our luggage. Each corridor even has a small pantry area where you can refill water and grab snacks (though we hope they restock the snacks a bit more often!).

Overall, it’s one of the nicest boutique hotels in Penang we’ve stayed at. Highly recommend it! 👍

This small café, tucked inside a cool industrial-style hotel, has such a relaxed vibe. The sandwiches are simple but really hit the spot — nothing fancy, just solid, tasty sandwiches. The coffee though? Easily the best part. It’s rich, perfectly brewed, and exactly what you need to kick back and relax. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or just want to chill with a great cup of coffee, this place totally nails it.

From what turned out to be an impressive 5/5 stars due to the service, prime location, cleanliness, fixtures, in the day; turns into an instant nightmare when the night comes everyday. I urge people to really reconsider staying here and read reviews carefully. This is the most unfiltered and unbiased review, and nothing against the hotel staff either because they have been amazing humans. I did a mistake by booking simply based on the overall ratings without diving in-depth to all reviews. In fact this 3/5 stars goes to the level of service I gotten from the staff and the architecture concept. If not it would have just been a 1/5.

While soundproofing or slamming of doors are a minor concern, opposite the hotel lies a bar (I shall not name them to give them free publicity here). They would host daily Karaoke and blasting of music with guests singing (badly…) and cheering would continue till 3-4am. The shop’s customers would also chat and laugh loudly by the roadside. Mind you; this is meant to be a hotel and not a motel yet my room turned into a karaoke studio in the middle of the night with their singing echoing and reverberating around the room till dawn. A trip eventually turned into consecutive sleepless nights. Made worse when I was down with fatigue and food poisoning one of the days.

Granted that particular nightlife establishment does not care about the surrounding, I’d expect the hotel to have taken some action because their business hours were supposed to end at 2am. My complaint isn’t even the only one; with many dated several months ago. I don’t know how and what could be done but necessary enforcement should have been done to have nightlife and accommodation to coexist together.

The price that us guests are paying a night are competitive pricing that higher end hotels are offering in this area but this could be worse than a typical hostel for sleep quality. Guests who paid extra for Superior Room unfortunately were the ones facing even nearer to that roadside bar. I’d say the reviews which were largely good were most definitely rooms located at the other side of the hotel.

Service wise, they were attended to promptly via chat. With each responses personally addressed to and not from some SOP template. Nothing to nitpick for them. Sadly, all the uncontrollable factors combined has made this trip an incredibly frustrating one.
