During my recent visit to Penang, I had a wonderful experience at a hotel that truly exceeded my expectations! As soon as I arrived, the cheerful hotel staff greeted me with bright smiles and made the check-in process a breeze. I didn’t even need to go to the reception desk—they took care of everything right there! It felt so warm and welcoming.
I also really appreciated how clean the bathroom was, and the towel was good. They also provided a bath bomb, so nice!
I’m still unsure whether it’s better to stay in Georgetown or outside of it. If you’re in Georgetown, walking around is probably more convenient than relying on rides, especially considering the heavy traffic on the island.
This hotel is located in Tanjung Tokong, about a 10-minute drive from Gurney and 20 minutes from Georgetown. But with traffic jams nearly all day long, getting around can be very time-consuming. Waiting for a ride can take 10–20 minutes, and with the traffic, it’s easy to spend an hour just traveling.
The hotel is close to the water, so rooms with a city view also offer a glimpse of the sea. However, rooms on the opposite side are blocked by a large condominium, which obstructs the view.
The rooms are decent and clean, and the bathtub (with free bath bombs) is a nice touch. However, the water in the bathtub had a strong chlorine smell in our room (1806), though I’m not sure if that’s the case for all rooms.
One small hiccup: we booked two rooms — one with breakfast and one without. Upon check-in, no one mentioned anything about the breakfast arrangement, so we assumed everything was as per our booking. On the first morning, a family member from the room with breakfast went to the breakfast area, only to be turned away and told she had to pay for breakfast. After clarifying with reception, they apologized for the oversight and compensated us by providing breakfast for both rooms the next morning.
Given the rate of RM395 per night for a room with breakfast, I don’t feel it’s quite worth the price.
Overall, while the hotel offers decent rooms and some nice amenities, the location and traffic make it less convenient for exploring Georgetown. With the room rate and the breakfast mix-up, it didn’t quite live up to expectations, but it’s still an okay option for a short stay if you don’t mind the travel time.
Thank you to all the staff at Jazz Hotel for making me feel so welcome! I really fell in love with staying here for 3 days and 2 nights. The room and bathroom were spacious and very clean, plus the bathtub with bath bombs was a lovely touch! The breakfast also had a variety of delicious foods. Chubby Cheeks is one of my favorites! For only RM28, you get great value for your money. Thanks to the staff who served us our meals. They made sure the food was excellent and helped us feel comfortable during our dining experience. Thanks again, and I hope to return on my next visit!
I would give my stay a 10 out of 10! Everything was perfect, from the welcoming staff to the comfortable accommodations and delicious food.
If you can, don’t stay at this hotel. Rooms were clean enough and big but as a hotel and service i didn’t enjoy my stay here at all. First day here and heater and fridge wasn’t working. Maintenance guy came to fix it and took over an hour to change the fridge but it was no better as hotel staff said their fridge wasn’t a cold fridge it was a “cooling fridge” which don’t make sense because it doesn’t even feel cool inside. Heater only works when not a lot of people are using the shower in the hotel so if you want a hot shower you have to get up really early or bathe really late. Asked for cutleries and it never came, asked to make up the room but didn’t even get all the towels we need only the bath towels. didn’t want to wait another few hours just for a few towels so we just made do with two.
as for facilities, gym’s aircon wasn’t working and with the little machines they have most were under maintenance. swam in the pool but you can tell it hasn’t been cleaned for a while, waters were cloudy and lots of leaves floating around.
The rooms are very spacious and sufficient amenities in the room to have a comfortable stay. In fact it is one of the biggest rooms in Georgetown area for the price. The staff are generally very nice, helpful and friendly. Housekeeping can be a bit slow but i can’t comment on why. I’ve stayed here a couple of times and on both experiences my room wasn’t made up till the evening.
Otherwise the location is relatively close to main city centre but away from the hustle and bustle of it. There’s also a convenient store just downstairs which can come in handy at times.
All in all a pleasant stay for a decent price
