Took the free guided tour, which was so good.
He really knew his stuff and had a folder full of pictures, drawings and maps.

You really need the tour to get the full story of the fort.
I’m a bit disappointed with this since I expected more. It just looks like a state park with remains of a fort and some cannons. I think 20RM for entrance it’s a bit too much. I guess it would be nice if you love history, otherwise I don’t think it’s worth it. It has a nice cafe inside, though I didn’t try since the cafe was closing when I came here.
3.5 stars would have been perfect for Fort Cornwallis. Interesting history, but very incomplete and poorly executed descriptions for this UNESCO included historical edifice.
I understand that they are redoing several aspects to this fort, but there could be much more thorough and better signage and descriptions to the various parts of this important fort, even in its transition state . Many signs are faded beyond being readable!!!!!

Final take….Fort Cornwallis deserves a much better attention to signage and descriptions. This could and SHOULD be so much better. Come on and just do it!!
It’s construction was completed in 1810 by the British to protect the Penang island. It’s built on the spot were Captain Francis Light originally landed. We didn’t bother to go in having read the mixed reviews. Externally it looked ok in its prominent location. Some impressive canons can still be seen externally.
Just a historical site of a British fortress beside the sea. Can only see brick walls and some forts nowadays which can also be seen from outside easily.
Pretty much nothing to see here. The entry fee is $20 ringgits. Not worthy in my POV.
