From the outside, the bird park appears small and old, yet within it is really large and home to hundreds of bird species similar to those big bird park. The birds are in good health and very active. Remember to spray anti mosquito repellent. Overall 9/10.
This place has a decent number of different bird species, mostly in cages. It’s hard to take pictures of the animals because of the wire mesh, but I kind of understand why the openings are so small to protect the animals from hurting themselves. Needless to say it is hot and humid there, so if you are prone to mosquito attacks then you should take whatever precautions you seem necessary. I can see that there are vending machines that used to sell food for certain birds that visitors could feed, but most of those machines look broken and there was no food to purchase.
There is a big enclosure that you can walk into, and you will find many parakeets and other smaller birds especially when you go up to the second level. Extend your arm, provided you are not scared of birds, and you may want experience a close encounter with some new friends.
There are daily bird shows so check timing before you go. By the way there is a difference in the price of the entry ticket for locals and foreigners. Just know what to expect. I recommend bringing an extra T-shirt to change into when you are done. A pretty new Sunway Mall is within walking distance and it is a nice place to cool down and get hydrated there.
I recently visited Penang Bird Park and was excited to see the variety of birds, especially the African Hornbill, which was a highlight for me. However, I was deeply disappointed by the overall condition of the park.
The environment is not well-maintained, with stagnant ponds and dirty water attracting mosquitoes. Many birds appeared unwell-some with feather loss or visible skin issues-and the ostrich seemed isolated and had an eye disease. Some birds were showing signs of stress, and certain enclosures were far too small for their occupants.
For example, the eagles were kept in cages approximately 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, which is clearly inadequate for their size and needs. Upon entering, there was a small photoshoot opportunity with a Bay Owl, but sadly, the owl looked sick and frail. It was heartbreaking to see.
To make things worse, the photo wasn’t included in the RM50 entrance fee for locals-it was priced separately at RM30 to RM50, which I feel is not worth it at all considering the conditions.
For such a high entrance fee, I expected much better care for the animals and better maintenance of the park. I sincerely hope the management takes steps to improve the conditions for the well-being of the animals and to provide a better experience for visitors.
Thrilling and a relaxing place to visit for someone who likes nature and any type of wildlife birds except for emu and ostrich since they’re tall & scary .. hehe but overall great great experience! Thank you.
Bird show 1130 & 1530 daily !!
I enjoyed visiting this park and the interaction with birds are great ! Very worthy to visit if you are bird lovers . One thing just to improve is the hygiene for birds living
